Village Web Company is a social enterprise that builds websites, runs training courses and hosts activities that develop digital skills and confidence. It was founded by me, Claire Worthington, a web developer from Stockport in Greater Manchester.
The Person Behind Village Web Company

I have been formally working in digital since 2013. I retrained as a front end web developer in 2009, when I realised that my business’s online shop wasn’t very good. Rather than pay someone else to rebuild the website, I enrolled at university and learnt how to build them myself. After my initial degree, I returned to University to study digital marketing at Post Grad level, because even the best website won’t achieve your goals if nobody ever finds it.
Teaching
I currently teach Web Development at Manchester Metropolitan University and previously supported WordPress workshops at the University of Sheffield.
Village Web Company’s Social Enterprise Work
I originally started the business in 2014 as a sole trader, but later incorporated Village Web Company as a community interest company (CIC), which means that profits are invested into supporting those starting their careers in the digital sector and delivering free activities that help people develop digital skills and confidence.

As part of my commitment to increase digital inclusion, Village Web Company CIC is a proud member of the National Digital Inclusion Network, Greater Manchester Digital Inclusion Taskforce and Stockport’s DigiKnow Alliance.
