Do you need a quiet work space?
I’ve decided to open a co-working space at my shop in Romiley Village.
As a web developer I spend a lot of time sat quietly building websites, meanwhile there are people trapped in nearby pubs and cafes, desperately wishing that everyone else would just shut up so that they could get on with their work!
Cafes are great for delicious food and socialising with friends, but a busy coffee shop isn’t usually the best place to do business admin, write a dissertation, draft an important client proposal or work on a funding bid.
If you need a few hours out of the house to work on something important, what you need is a co-working space with free wifi and complimentary refreshments, which is exactly what I’m offering.
Why use a co-working space?
Over the last few years, we’ve all become more accustomed to working from home, but there are times when it’s more productive to pick up your laptop and work somewhere else. Home offices are great when you have to wait in for a delivery, but when you regularly work from home, it can be difficult to separate our work from our personal life, especially if you run your own business. Some days we just need an alternative that is free of interruptions from our loved ones and avoids the temptation to quickly do some housework, walk the dog or make a start on tonight’s tea.
Romiley Village has lots of lovely cafes and pubs, which regularly host people and their laptops, but if you’d rather have a desk and free brews, then perhaps co-working is a better option.

So How Does It Work?
On co-working days, you book a slot in advance, turn up, pay for your session and get on with your work.
Whilst you’re here, you can connect to the WiFi and enjoy as many free refreshments as you like during your stay. There is an extra charge if you need to print a document or would like something from the snack table, but that’s it.
If you need a few hours out of the house to work on something important, then Village Web Company offers a quiet work space with free WiFi and complementary refreshments.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why are you doing this?
The short answer is that I’m here anyway. The longer answer is that I think that a lot of people would benefit from a local co-working space. I’m a small business owner and I’ve studied as a mature student, so I know how difficult it can be to work from home at times.
How long are the sessions?
- Morning sessions 09.30 am – 1.30 pm
- Afternoon sessions 1.30 pm – 5.30 pm
- Full Day sessions 09.30 am – 5.30 pm
Do I have to stay for the full session?
No. You can leave whenever you like. You can also add extra time if you need it, assuming there is enough space.
Why do people have to pre-book?
Unlike big city centre co-working spaces, there is limited capacity.
Why do people have to sign up to join?
Having a mailing list is the easiest way to communicate with potential co-workers and holding a small amount of information about the people using the space, will help me understand more about what may be useful to you. Your details will not be shared with any other organisations and you will only be contacted with information about the co-working space.
I have separate mailing lists for general marketing.
Do I Have To Book Online?
No. I’m happy to take bookings in person or over the phone, but the online booking system is preferred.
How much does it cost?
Half day sessions – £6.00
Full day sessions – £10.00
If I use the co-working space, will I be pressured to buy a website, attend a training course or expected to buy digital themed gifts?
No.
I’m a social enterprise and the profits from anything I sell contributes to delivering free digital skills training. I sell websites, training courses, digital themed gifts (and as of this week posh crisps and chocolate bars) which you are very welcome to buy. It would of course be amazing if running the co-working space resulted in more web development work, but I’m definitely not trying to lure anybody in with free coffee so that I can give them a sales pitch.
