Adding A PayPal Button To Collect Donations On Your Website

February 4, 2022

These instructions are based on a PayPal Business account and using the PayPal website, rather than the PayPal app.

  1. Log into your PayPal Business account.
  2. Select Pay and Get Paid
  3. Choose Accept Payments
  4. Select Donations
  5. Choose Put Button on Website
  6. Adjust the various settings to suit your personal preference, including whether you wish to add your organisation’s logo or include a message.
  7. Select Full Page Experience
  8. Choose Customise Donation Details
  9. You have the option to take your donors back to your website, after making their donation on the PayPal website. This isn’t compulsory, but ideally you don’t want to lose website visitors.
  10. If you have selected the option to take donors back to your website you will need to provide the web address of the page you would like them to be returned to if they choose to abandon the process part way through and the address of the page you would like them to be returned to after a successful donation. e.g. A thank you page. If you don’t have a specific page set up choose the url of the website homepage including http:// or https:// (Copy the full url from your website to avoid potential typos)
  11. Click Finish
  12. This will then create a sharable link, a donate button and a QR code. To add a donate button copy and paste the code displayed below the button and send it to your web developer (if somebody else is building the website for you) or embed it into the HTML on your website if you are adding the button yourself.
